Therapy and coaching are not treatments that can be predicted. However, one of the greatest predictors for “success” in therapy is the connection with your therapist. Therefore, I encourage you to discuss any concerns along the way.
Sessions work best when you commit to weekly or every-other-week sessions as determined at the introductory session. In order to remain an active client, you must be meeting with me at least once per month. If you do not meet with me once per month you will no longer be an active client and will need to redo paperwork and begin a new treatment period to re-engage in the work. If you do terminate and restart you will be charged at the current new client session rate.
The best way to reach me regarding appointments is through email at email@example.com to schedule or reschedule appointments or to ask general questions. Both I and my assistant have access to that email. If it is a private or confidential matter please message me securely through your client portal. Messages in the client portal are only seen by me.
I am not on call in case of a crisis. If there is a crisis please call the mobile crisis line: 713.970.7000 and press #1 for the Crisis Line. In the event of imminent risk of danger, please call 911.
Sessions are charged, in full, at the session. You will get a statement of charges at that time and a "superbill" to submit to your insurance provider if you choose. A statement is issued at the first of each month for the previous month’s payments for insurance or tax purposes. This has all the information your insurance company will need for reimbursement and will be delivered via your client portal. There is no direct billing with any insurance plan. The statement will include a diagnosis and insurance code. If you submit to insurance for out of network reimbursement they will have a record of your diagnosis.
My goal is to offer the best counseling and psychotherapy I can. For this reason, I do not participate directly with insurance, managed care, or accept any fees or bill services with Medicare, in order to keep confidentiality and autonomy with clients at a premium. My clients value the independent relationship that this process provides. It allows them to control their own treatment plan (instead of the insurance company).
Some insurance plans will still reimburse you for a portion of your counseling or therapy fees (for an out of plan provider). Please check with your insurance company to verify your out of network coverage.
I do not participate directly with any insurance companies, but as I am a licensed clinical social worker, you may find your sessions reimbursable. Flexible Spending Accounts and Health Savings Accounts are welcomed.
A credit card is stored on file and charged at the end of each session. It is the client's responsibility to update Leanne Peterson LLC should a new card need to be added. It is also the client's responsibility to schedule appointments in advance (either directly with me or online through the client portal) to ensure that you are able to get your sessions in. I will provide notice of when I will be off.
All regularly scheduled sessions are your financial responsibility. For appointments canceled the day of the appointment, you will be billed for the full session. The only exceptions are serious family emergencies and severe illness. If you are not feeling well or are stuck somewhere, I encourage you to convert your session to a phone session so that you still use the session you are paying for.
All sessions begin at the scheduled time and last 50-60 minutes. If you arrive late, we will meet until 50-60 minutes after your scheduled session time.
Please note that multiple missed/canceled appointments and late arrivals may require us to discontinue treatment. In this circumstance, I will discuss with you in person or by phone how we should proceed.
Psychotherapy sessions are scheduled on an ongoing weekly or bi-monthly (twice a month) basis and last 50-60 minutes. They are conducted outdoors, via phone, or video. For outdoor session, if the weather is not conducive to meeting the session will be converted to a phone or video session.
If, at any time, you feel that your needs are not being met or you are not getting what you want out of our sessions, please tell me in a session so I can discuss your needs and adjust your therapy treatment plan, or help you to end the therapy as quickly and well as possible, if that is your choice.
As a licensed clinical social worker and psychotherapist, I follow the ethical guidelines of the National Association of Social Workers. I protect the confidentiality of communications with my clients. I will only release information about our sessions and treatment plan to others with your written permission, or if I am required to do so by a court order. There are some situations in which I am legally obligated to breach your confidentiality in order to protect others from harm, including (1) if I have information that indicates that a child or elderly or disabled person is being abused, I must report that to the appropriate state agency and (2) if a client is an imminent risk to him/herself or makes threats of imminent violence against another person, I am required to take protective actions. These situations rarely occur, but if such a situation does occur, I will make every effort to discuss it with you before taking any action.
