Hello and welcome to November!

After spending October focusing on efficiency and practicing being mindful about my time (working on The One Thing), I am ready to relax!

Stopping the "Crazy-Busy"

Have you found yourself getting overwhelmed as you work to keep up with all the projects, commitments, and relationships in your life? Are you ready to curl up on the couch with a good book, a hot cup of tea, and some orchard-fresh Honeycrisp apples (the best apples ever)? I know I am!

Crazy-busy is a great armor, it's a great way for numbing. What a lot of us do is that we stay so busy, and so out in front of our life, that the truth of how we're feeling and what we really need can't catch up with us. - Brené Brown

This quote from Brené Brown, author of our November book club pick Dare to Lead, really hit home with me. With the holiday season just around the corner, now is the perfect time to pause, reflect, and engage in some much-needed self care. Let's remember that we nurture our ability to be efficient and productive by taking breaks every now and then. Consider this your invitation to take a break!

Healthy Sick Days

Back in college, every now and then I would take something I called a "healthy sick day." I loved the sense of ease and restfulness of a sick day--but of course I didn't love being sick! So when I started to feel overwhelmed, I allowed myself to take a day just to lounge around, relax, and enjoy myself. That one day of rest and reprieve made all the difference!

If you have been feeling like you need a break, take a healthy sick day for yourself!

Here's a question I invite you to think about this month: How can I experience rest while enjoying the present moment?

Year's End? Time to Check In!

Businesses typically hold year-end meetings to recap the year's accomplishments and developments. As individuals, we would be wise to do the same.

So often we brush over our accomplishments, leaving them behind us as we hurry forward. I believe that we owe it to ourselves and to our productivity in the coming year to pause and take stock of 2018. What were our greatest achievements? What did we struggle with? What remains unfinished and deserves our focus in 2019?

If you're in the Houston, Texas area, I'd love to have you join me for my 2018 Wrap Up Workshop! We're going to gather in community to reflect on the past year and refocus our priorities for the coming year. You'll leave the workshop feeling clear-headed, empowered, and ready to make 2019 a truly awesome year!

The Upgrade Society: Dare to Lead

Our November Upgrade Society Book Club pick is Brené Brown's Dare to Lead.

You may know Brené Brown from her amazing work on vulnerability. In Dare to Lead, Brené Brown examines the elements that make great, courageous leaders. Not surprisingly, the willingness to be vulnerable is part of the equation.

The best part is her discovery that courage and leadership skills are simple skills that anyone can learn.

Dare to Lead is the perfect book to curl up with this month as we head towards the holidays and the coming new year. If you're like me and want to make 2019 even better than 2018 was, join me as I dive into Brené Brown's easy-to-follow program for building courage and becoming the best leaders we can be.

I'll be sending weekly emails providing inspiration from the book plus a special edition book club

podcast at the end of the month so that you can follow along, listen and then provide your own insights on our Facebook page. If you aren't part of our book club, we would love to have you join! Click HERE.
